I’d been looking for inspiration to add to the light box but when I came across this line I had to place it on the bricks at the back of the studio. I love the idea of being erased whilst still existing. I can’t help but think of death and the energy we leave behind, our stories, legacies, genes and the inevitable thought of the afterlife. It speaks to the painter in me on an almost primal level. The way I rub out swathes of marks on a canvas with more layers of paint but when you step up to the surface the existence of what was there before ghosts underneath. It has a playful top coat in the literal way of cleaning up graffiti but peel back the layers, have a little think and a whole other world of thought opens up to you.
